The Clinical Efficacy of Sulperazon in the Treatment of Pyogenic Bone and Joint Infections


Abstract
The clinical efficacy of Sulperazon in the treatment of pyogenic bone and joint infection: was evaluated in 20 patients who were admitted and treated in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Severance Hospital from September 1988 to January 1989.
The results were as follows:
1. Among 20 cases, there were 5 cases of acute osteomyelitis, 3 cases of acute pyogenic arthritis 3 cases of chronic osteomyelitis, and 9 cases of postoperative infection
2. With combined surgical treatment and Sulperazon medication, the bacteriological eradication rate and the clinical cure rate were both 80 percent. The overall effectiveness was excellent in 80 percent of the cases(16 patients), good in 10 percent, and fair in 10 percent.
3. There was good toleration to Sulperazon in all cases and there were no noticeable c ¢¥cal side effects or abnormal laboratory findings during and after treatment.
4. The clinical results of the study lead to the conclusion that Sulperazon is an efficient and safe antibiotic in the treatment of pyogenic bone and joint infections.
